Osman ve hilafeti(Sosyal Bilimler Enstitüsü, 2001) Akarsu, Murat; Yazıcı, Nesimi; İlahiyatABSTRACT Akarsu, Murat, Uthman and his Caliphate Era, Ph. D. Thesis, Supennsor, Prof. Dr. Nesi mi Yazıcı, 284 p. The caliphate era of Uthman, the third caliph, is one of the most important periods in Islamic History. Many internal conflicts arose in early Muslim society. Uthman was elected after Ulnar's death by the counsil that nominated by Umar himself Uthman was also one of secribers of Qur'an. He also was son-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH). Moreover Uthman was not a rigit man. He became a ruler in a time that the conquest had been continued on the one hand, and there had been a social structure based on differend cultures on the other. It is likely that the caliph, unlike his predecessor, made many changes in the structure of administration. Doing so he aimed the unity of state apparatus. Furthermore he appointed a number of his close relatives to the administrative positions. Then on going conquest gave rise to the expenditures rather than new revanues paud incomes. In his era some administrative and political arrangemes had been made and his social practices resulted in serious opposition movements in society agains him. Meanwhile his administration had some economical problems as well. In fact the main reason for turmoils seen in his ruling era was economical and political than social one. Because in the era of Umar, Muslim society had important revenues due to the conquest of wealthy regions and countries. Moreover, a great deal of these revenues gave rise to the appearing of the leading figures of the society as new class of wealty people. In fact of this stuation, discontenmens arose in the important provinces, when have cospomolitan structure, such a Kufa, Basra, and Egypt. Consequently, an important opposition movemet arose against the caliph Uthman. Efforts of the Caliph to repress this movement was ineffective and he was killed on june, 1 7, 656 by a rebellious who had besiged his home in M adi nah.
