Abstract

Forming the west borders of southeast Anatolia the city of Gaziantep became settlement center from prehistorical ages and especially from the end of 3rd thousand BC and the beginning of the 2nd thousand BC gains importance because of being on the trading route between Anatolia and Mesopotamia also the paths through Northern Syria pass from the region which attracts the forces around there. In the first part our study forming until the term ending Hattusilis I , the general information about political and culturel structure of Gaziantep and its surroundings are given. In the second part of our study, the terms of Hattusilis I and candidate Mursili I is rewiewed, the military activity in the region is indicated. Also the Hittites military activites systematized, political goals which in the time of empire were formed. Newly established state priority was to raise its prestige and power by winning victories in Anatolia so firstly Hattusilis I and Mursili I insisted on the campaigns to Anatolia, after that through their northern Syrian policy general goal Hittite military force was used to take control of thr region. For this purpose they cut down the power of Yamhad state owning the cities like Alalah, Ur?u, Hassuwa, Hahhum, Kargamis, Halep. In our second part of our study captured city states are mentioned under different caption based on briefs in literatures. Also the information given about Hurries restricts the hegomony of Hittites in Anatolia.The general of the study shows the commercial, economical and culturel relation ship of Gaziantep and surrounding cities were exposed to show how important was Gaziantep for the region.
