Abstract
The existence of qualified herd managers is of great importance for the future of small ruminant breeding. In Turkey. However, the lack of sufficent and qualified herd managers emerge as a major problems in ensuring a successful herd management. Informal education activities play an important role in ensuring qualified employment. Within this scope, in order to close the shortage of qualified herd manager in the livestock sector and to create a registered employment, the "Herd Manager is Me" Project has been implemented in Turkey in 2013. The aim of this study is to analyze the educational activities of the proje in Ankara. For this purpose, a survey was conducted with 65 herd managers who received training and 65 herd managers who did not receive training with similar characteristics in the same region. The herd managers in Ankara were classified according to whether they received training or not, and it was tried to determine the differences arising from the training between the two groups. The relationships between the two groups were examined by proportional (%) and Multiple Correspondence Analysis. As a result, it was determined that the training activities contributed positively to the knowledge level of herd managers. It was determined that the trainings given especially on herd health and animal diseases were beneficial. According to the results of the Multiple Adaptation Analysis, it was found that there is a significant relationship between herd managers participating in training activities and middle age (31-55), herd managers have managed 251 and over small ruminants and who have good knowledge. In addition, it has been observed that there is a significant relationship between herd managers who have primary school and under education and who manage of more than 251 small ruminants and those who will continue their profession.
