Abstract
Si- abstract This study investigates the effects of to be only child or singleton child on social play in preschool age children. The fist part of the study includes the theoretical explanations of to be only child or singleton child, social play, the problem, the aim and the importance of the study. The second part contains the research procedure, instruments used in the study, and analysis of the data. The third part of the study deals with findings, and discussion. The fourth part consists of the summary, conclusions, and suggestions for future researches. The aim of the research is to determine the differences between the social game preferences of only child and singleton child. For this purpose, 18 singleton child and 20 only child were observed and evaluated according to the Parten's social game categories. The results show that only children prefer solitary play than singleton children, singleton children prefer associative play and cooperative play than only children. Another aim of the research is to investigate whether there is a difference between the sexes and the number of the playmates of only child and singleton child during free play. It is found that both of the child groups play with same sex as themselves. The average number of children in each play group is five. Four of children in each group has the same sex and other one has apposite sex.
