Abstract

This research was prepared to determine the gender role attitudes and gender equality perspections of parents whose children are studied in the pre-schools in Famagusta-TRNC. It was obtained information about socio-demographic attributes, parental attitudes and gender role attitudes of 312 parents whose children are studying in pre-schools in Famagusta-TRNC by using the questionnaire within the scope of the research. The Parental Attitude Research Instrument (PARI) which is determined the validity and reliability by LeCompte, LeCompte A. and Özer (1978) was used to meausure the parental attitudes; Gender Roles Attitude Scale which is developed by Zeyneloğlu (2008) was used to measure the gender role attitudes. SPSS (16) was used in data entry, analysis and determined mean, standart deviation and percentage in terms of the variable quality. t, F and r statistical analyzes was used to determine if there is a significant difference and relationship between variables. It was found that most of the parents (%42) has extreme protectionist attitudes. When the parental attitudes and socio-demographic attributes compared it doesn't vary according to gender, age and child age. Only domineering-authoritative attitudes don't vary according to the education level. In contrast, family type vary according to domineering-authoriative attitudes and extreme protectionist attitudes vary according to the number of children. Considering the gender roles attitudes it was found that most of the parents (%33,84) adopted equality gender roles. The ones who adopted the gender roles attitudes in an equality understanding is approximately 145,88. The gender roles don't vary according to the ages of parents and children. On the other hand the gender of parenst varies. Also the family type varies according to the male gender roles and gender roles; but the child number doesnt vary only wi.th equality gender roles. Theresearch has been concluded with suggession and discussion in the light of the related literature
