Abstract
ABSTRACT Master Thesis THE COSTS OF COLLECTING, PROCESSING AND MARKETING OF THE MEDICINAL AND AROMATIC PLANTS WHICH GROW NATURALLY IN KASTAMONU AND POSSIBLE CONTRIBUTIONS TO ITS ECONOMY. Kemal YAMAN Ankara University Graduate School of Natural and Applied Sciences Departman of Agricultural Economy Supervizer : Prof. Dr. Ahmet Erkuş In this study the production elements of the naturally growing medicinal and aromatic plants' (such as Hypericum perforatum, Rosa canina, Orchideceae spp, Morchella conica, Cantharellus cibarius, Boletus edulis) and production costs have been indicated beginning from the collector's part througout the processions of agencies' supply to the consumer ( of component items like labour of collection of the plant(s), bagging, loading and unloading, transportation, office/warehouse duites, package and marketing), in Kastamonu. It was observed that the natural field harvesters had a cost-of-between 37 955 TL/kg and 2 022 088 TL/kg, that of the intermediaries 116 456 TL/kg - 22 588 319 TL/kg, the exporter-processor firms 350 117 TL/kg - 9 453 348 TL/kg by researched products. The natural field harvesters had a profit margin-of-between 17,78% and 1096,96%, intermediary firms 2,28% - 151,07%, the exporter-processor firms 29,42% - 270,99% by researched products. Whlist, the exportation of medicinal and aromatic plants, in 1999, an additional income of 61 278 225 US$ was obtained to Turkish macro economy, a rate of 0,17% to Kastamonu economy in terms of locality and a rate of 14,83% to local farmers by their natural field harvesting of the medicinal and aromatic plants hereby researched.
