Abstract

Summary Nowadays, neo-liberal tendencies become stronger in all aspects and social, cultural and economic lives are determined by global actors and dynamics. It's possible to make concrete the globalism notion in terms of current socio-economic structure. On the one hand globalism changes the world; on the other hand a great metamorphosis has come out in every aspects of economic, cultural and political life of Turkey. In that period, earning money and consuming a great deal came first in idolized talents. Press companies have also been influenced by this metamorphosis and gradually media ownership has changed hands from journalist families to huge financial groups. In this ownership structure, press has managed such editorial policies that would impose a new lifestyle. Media directors and column writers have taken important roles by following these policies. Press institutions have altered in this term and gradually transformed into multimedia groups that have modern facilities and brand new technologies. Besides, relations between press - finance and political power have gradually been complex and caused some negative results in this concept. Chief Editors have taken role as representative and business agent of bosses and so editorial freedom has damaged. In this context, monopolies have multiplied, trade-unionism, social rights and working conditions have deteriorated on the contrary of director staff that promoted to an upper class. The problem of inability of industrialized press to make public service function and lack of freedom, is about to affect not only journalists but also all society and democratic structure. 254
