Abstract

The study was conducted at the research field of Southeastern Anatolian Agricultural Research Institute, Diyarbakır, during 1986/87 and 1987/88 growing seasons. The effects of four row spacing {15, 20, 25 and 30cm) and four harvesting methods (hand-pulling, scyting, mowing with grass cutter and combining) on yield and some agronomical characters of three lentil cultivars were examined. Seed yield and biological yield per unit area, pod numbers/plant and seed numbers/plant were significantlyVII effected in three cultivars by row spacing in two years. However, plant height, initial pod height, seed yield/plant, biological yield/plant and 1000-seed weight were significantly effected by row spacing only in 1987/88. Seed yield and biological yield per unit area were effected significantly by different harvesting methods in both years. It was found that there were significant and positive relationship between seed yield/unit area and biological 2 yield/unit area, 1000-seed weight and plant number/m, 2 biological yield/unit area and plant number/m, plant height and initial pod height, pod number/plant and seed number/plant in two years? biological yield/unit area and 2 plant height, plant height and plant number/m, seed yield/ plant and biological yield/ plant, seed yield/plant and harvest index in only one year. Significant and negative relations were observed between pod number/plant and plant 2 2 number/m, seed number/plant and plant number/m in two years; plant height and pod number/plant, plant height and seed number/plant, plant height and 1000-seed weight, initial pod height and pod-seed number/plant, initial seed height and 1000-seed weight, pod number/plant and harvest 2 index, seed yield/plant and plant numbers/m, biological 2 yield/plant and plant number/ m in one year. It was determined that 15 cm of row spacing and hand harvesting method were most economical combination for threeVIII lentil cultivars. Combine harvesting was the second economi cal harvesting method. Mowing with grass-cutter among four harvesting methods was less suitable for lentil harvesting.
