Abstract
The main aim of this research is to set out and evaluate the participation in Eğitim-Sen of the female teachers who form an important section of the teaching force; the effects of union membership in self improvement and its realisation; and the views of the union administrators and female teachers, whether they are members of union or not. The thesis consist of four parts. The effects sexist ideologies formed during the course of history concerning the sate of woman is dealt with in the first section. Explanations of the methodology is the subject matter of the second section. The findings were analysed according to variables in the form of cross distributions in the third section. The research was stated and proposals were made in the final section. Main conclusions of this research are as follows: -The ratio of woman executive administrators in the Union to the number of members is very low. -The participation of young unmarried woman teachers without children is higher. -Woman teachers who are not aware of hidden sexual discrimination are a means to it and they help to pass it on into the future. -Woman move away from the union due to groupings and pressure groups within the union. -The sexual attitudes and behaviour of the society are also present in Eğitim-Sen. -Policies and attitudes formed according to male values are reasons for woman to be alienated from the Unuion.
